Designed as a solid-body counterpart to its semi-hollow body ES-335 counterpart, the 335-S Deluxe was the most appointed version of the early-80’s 335-S models.
These guitars were one of the first Gibson’s to come with a factory coil-tap that really gives the guitar some great sound options coupled with the early Tim Shaw dirty finger pickups, which sound amazing.
This model was engineered to be highly versatile, and it sure is through featuring:
· Contoured mahogany solid body with a double cutaway
· Original sunburst finish
· 3-piece mahogany neck
· Bound ebony fingerboard with mother of-pearl dot inlays
· Early Tim Shaw, "Pat.-Nr.-stamped", "Dirty Fingers" humbucking pickups with coil split· Tune-O-Matic ("Nashville") bridge (not the original one, it seems)
· Stop tailpiece (and no longer the original TP-6 tailpiece)
· Gibson deluxe tuners· Bone nut (and no longer the original brass nut)
· 5-ply, small black pickguard
· Dual volume and tone controls with black speed knobs
· 3-way pickup toggle and 2-way mini switch for coil tapping
With super low action and a silky smooth neck with a slim C-shape profile, this guitar plays like a dream anywhere on the fretboard. This guitar has been played and shows just the right amount of vintage mojo. It has remained entirely original except for its nut, bridge, tailpiece and frets (wirth virtually no fretwear).
Overall, it is in really great condition, including handling marks that are consistent with a 42-year old instrument. The seemingly non-original but vintage, era-correct hard case is perfectly functional and will last many more years despite it has already been necessary to fix its handle.
Given the rarity and quality of these guitars, their price have significantly increased -- and will continue to do so! In other words: grab it while you can!
