Here comes a 1971 Jazz Bass modified into a fretless by its former owner, a recently retired jazz virtuoso. The instrument was last 'updated' in 2015 when the electronics were redone.
The lovely remains of the 1971 Fender Jazz Bass:
- Three-piece body (with the pickguard and bridge cover screw holes filled in) whose neck pocket shows a Fender stamp and traces of yellow paint suggesting that the original finish must have been a sunburst
- Grey bottom pickups (stamped 2041 in neck position and 3042 in bridge position)
- 4-screw neck plate (serial 307079)
- Control plate, jack output, string tree
What's not original :
- Fretless neck with ebony fingerboard made by renowned French luthier François Guidon
- Fender ultra-light bass tuning keys XBS-1C
- CTS EP4395 pots stamped "1434" (34th week of 2014)
- Schaller 3D-4 bridge
- Strap locks
Weighing just 3910 grams, this fretless player's guitar is a real pleasure to play, sounds wonderful and will undoubtedly delight its future owner.
